The mental health crisis taking place across university campuses is indisputable, with students attempting to tap into mental health resources on campuses that are not equipped to deal with the increased need for services.
Following the Ontario government’s announcement in March that it will invest $27 million over three years to provide new mental health services at Ontario colleges and universities as part of its Comprehensive Mental Health and Addictions Strategy, U of T announced plans to start a tri-campus Provostial Committee on Mental Health, with recommendations expected by October 2014 for policies and procedures to be implemented in order to address mental health concerns.
In light of the increased awareness of the crisis, the UTM Health and Counselling Centre started a vlogging project this fall called UTMental, in which five UTM students offer different perspectives as a way to start talking about mental health.
The vlogs can be viewed here.
Above, the Medium investigates what steps UTM is taking to address the issue.
